All About UK Family History

Start tracing your family history...
My website will help you to uncover your UK family history, guiding you on where to find information and how to use it.

Genealogy vs family history...
I'm an experienced family history researcher, based in Hertfordshire, Southern England. I've traced some lines of ancestors back to the seventeenth century. However, there really is much more to family history than names and dates. Genealogists tend to look at pedigrees and lineage, whereas a family historian takes a broader brush.

Right: my aunts and uncles in the 1900s.

It's the interesting stories that make your family come alive. I've found bigamists and bastards, vicars and villains. I can't promise you royalty or black sheep, but I'll help you in your UK family history search. Just come with me and explore my website. In time, you may become your family's genealogy expert.

Free family history research...
There's plenty of free family history research you can do - I'll help you search for births, deaths, marriages, directories etc. However, while some sites do offer a free family history search, beware! You may catch the research bug, and find yourself subscribing willy-nilly. Before you sell the kids and re-mortgage your house to fund your research, browse my site. I'll give you tips on making the most of your money.

First steps...
In the meantime, your first port of call isn't really the web. You might strike it lucky with websites like Genes Reunited, and find a lost cousin. But really the place to begin is with a pad and pencil. Start with everything relevant you can think of about your parents... their parents... maybe even your grandparents' parents.

Then move on to your oldest relatives. Free family history, if you like. And with the web, you can now easily email your distant cousins and find out what they know already.

Beginning in earnest...
Have you assembled all your UK family history information? Then you're ready to begin. Just chose a line to follow. Probably, next you'll decide to find out about their birth, or perhaps their marriage. Just follow the links on my site, which will help you make a start.
