1) Free ezine

2) Searching the archives

I regularly visit the London repositories, and can search them on your behalf.

They include:

  • British Library - East India Co records
  • British Library Newspaper Archive at Colindale
  • Family Records Centre
  • London Metropolitan Archives
  • Society of Genealogists

If you are interested in other archives, please contact me to see if I can help.

I charge £10 for half an hour. I do not charge for travel to and from the archives. However, if I make any photocopies for you, I will pass on the actual cost.

3) Tailor-made research

Today, a lot of information is available online, particularly if you subscribe to various sites. You can even view original records, such as censuses and wills. I’ve given pointers on my website to help you start your research. If you take this route, I hope that you find family history a satisfying hobby – I certainly have.

However, not everyone wants to carry out his or her own research:

  • Maybe you don’t have the time to carry out the research yourself?
  • Perhaps you find it all a little overwhelming?
  • Maybe the research is a present for a loved one?

Well, I can carry out your research for you. Every search is different, so it is difficult to be prescriptive about where the research will lead. However, if you have a particular line you are interested in researching, contact me with the details, and I will let you know what I can offer.

I charge £20 an hour, plus costs. For example, copies of birth, marriage and death certificates cost £7, and I will pass this onto you. Don't worry - I will keep you informed. Nothing comes as a nasty shock at the end.

Having someone work with you to uncover your family history can be very rewarding and interesting. I can’t predict what you will find, but I will certainly treat your research with as much care and diligence as my own.

4) Family tree packages

I also offer a family tree package. For 300 pounds sterling I will trace one line going back to the 1840s. I charge extra for certificates, but only at their cost price of 7 pounds sterling, and I might order perhaps three to five.

It's difficult to be specific, because it depends on what I can find. Every case is unique, which is what makes it so interesting.

Normally, it is possible to find at least one line to follow. However, occasionally there is a total brick wall in all directions, in which case, I will let you know.
